How can we help?

Answers to the questions people ask most. If yours is not here, we read every message that comes through the contact page.

Getting started

What OpenTrib is, and what you can do here today.

What is OpenTrib?

OpenTrib is an open digital ecosystem for ideas. One side is a marketplace for knowledge products — books, audiobooks, courses, templates, guides and notes. The other is a set of communities where the people behind that work and the people reading it can actually talk.

The two are designed to connect: a book leads to its creator, a creator to the community around their work, and a conversation there back to the next thing worth reading.

Do I need an account to look around?

No. The marketplace and the community directory are open to browse without signing in, and they will stay that way. An account is for the things that need to remember you — your library, the communities you have joined, the work you publish.

Is OpenTrib live yet?

Not yet. What you can explore today is the full design of the product, with sample catalogue and community content in place of real listings. Accounts, purchases and publishing open with the full launch.

Everything labelled as a sample is invented — the titles, the creators and the discussions — so that nothing here misrepresents a real person's work.

Finding things to read

How discovery works, and why it is organised the way it is.

How is the marketplace organised?

Around what you want to do, rather than around a product taxonomy. The six intents — Read, Listen, Learn, Create, Connect and Grow — are the primary way in, because "I want to learn something" is a thought people actually have and "PDF, 40–80 pages" is not.

Formats still exist underneath, and you can browse straight to books, audiobooks, courses, templates, guides or notes whenever you already know what you are after.

Can I try something before buying it?

That is the intent. Sample chapters and previews are part of the planned product detail experience, alongside the free titles that will sit in the catalogue permanently.

Until purchases open there is nothing to buy, so everything on the site is currently open to look at in full.

Your library

Where the things you buy or save will live.

Where do the things I buy go?

Into your library, which keeps everything you own in one place regardless of which format it came in — a course and an audiobook sit on the same shelf.

Libraries arrive with accounts at the full launch. There is nothing to buy yet, so there is nothing to store.

Will I keep access to what I buy?

Yes. Buying something on OpenTrib is meant to feel like owning it, not renting access that can be withdrawn. The detailed terms will be published alongside the launch of purchases.

Communities

Joining rooms, starting one, and how they are kept civil.

How do I join a community?

Browse the directory and open any community that looks like your kind of room. Open communities can be read by anyone; joining them, once accounts are live, is free and you can leave whenever you like.

Private communities need an invite and stay out of the directory.

Can I start my own community?

Yes — that flow is already designed and you can walk through it today at Create a community. It asks for a name, a handle, one line about the room and a subject, and nothing else, because the rest is better decided once the room exists.

Communities are created for real once accounts open.

How are communities moderated?

Each community sets its own guidelines, and the person who starts a room is responsible for it. Platform-wide rules cover the things no community gets to opt out of — harassment, spam and illegal material.

Moderation tooling is part of the community launch rather than something bolted on afterwards.

Publishing your work

What creators can publish, and what they keep.

What can I publish on OpenTrib?

Books and ebooks, audiobooks, courses, templates, guides and notes. The catalogue is built for knowledge products of any size — a two-page checklist is as legitimate a thing to sell as a full course.

Do I keep the rights to my work?

Yes. You keep your rights and you keep your relationship with your readers. OpenTrib is a place to sell and discuss your work, not a buyer of it.

The full terms for creators are set out on the For Creators page.

How much does publishing cost?

The revenue share and the terms around it are stated in full on the For Creators page, which is the single place those figures live. We keep them in one place deliberately: a platform that scatters its economics across six pages is one you have to audit rather than read.

Payments and payouts

Buying, refunds, and how creators get paid.

What payment methods will you accept?

Card payments at launch, with regional methods added as the marketplace opens in more places. Prices are shown in your currency wherever we can.

What is the refund policy?

The refund terms will be published in full before the first purchase is possible, and they will be linked from every checkout rather than buried in a policy page.

Purchases are not open yet, so there is nothing to refund today.

When do creators get paid?

Payout schedules and thresholds are part of the creator terms and will be confirmed with the launch of publishing. See the For Creators page for what is settled so far.
